The W221 will always be my favorite recent generation S Class. The new one looks nice, but it has a CLA stink about it. Still looks nice though.

Totally agree on both counts, although you need the post-facelift W221 to avoid those stupid bars across the taillights. But yeah, the new one looks a little too melty and it's really made me appreciate the previous generation.

I'm on the fence about the bars across the taillights. Part of me likes them, part of me doesn't.

I really really like the W220 more than the W221 for some reason. Probably the attractive prices :3

They still look nice, but most of them are murdered out.

Agree. Before I settled on an '06 Quattroporte, I gave the one-year-only (for the W220) S65 AMG some serious consideration. What kept me away was that while it has insane amounts of power, the parts prices trumped even Maserati and at the end of the day, I'd still have something that looks like every other beat-down, rust belt W220 around here, save for some nicer wheels and "V12 BITURBO" badges.

I'm still happy with my decision.

How's the Quattroporte held up? I think they're gorgeous but would worry about putting on 20k miles a year.

It has been pretty darn good I have to say. Some piddly BS here and there but never a major failure. The key is to get one with a service history—preferably by the same dealer, who will have someone there that worked on the car from new. I lucked out in that respect. I had to settle for a color I didn't want, but in the end, I feel I made a good choice.
